THE BIG SKATE TOUR
“We’re putting the band back together”… the band of the World’s best vert skaters, on a brand new vert ramp at all BIG DAY OUT shows in 2012.
The BIG DAY OUT skate show is back! The tour begins in NZ and continues around Australia in Jan/Feb 2012.
It’s 20 years since the first BIG DAY OUT concert was held. Skate rock band the “Village Idiots” was the 1st band on the Skate Stage. Right alongside the stage stood the brand new Coca-Cola Vert ramp, and as the band hit the stage, the skaters dropped in. The legendary Big Day Out Skate show had begun.
20 years later and so begins a new chapter in the long history of amazing BDO skaters, ramps, bands and tours.
The Skate legend himself, Tony Hawk is back for his 3rd BDO tour after 14 years away, and this time he is bringing some of his skate mates along for the ride.
THE TONY HAWK BIG DAY OUT VERT JAM
Definitely not to be missed. Tony Hawk is on the ramp with Kevin Staab, Sandro Dias, Heal Hendrix and Jesse Fritsch in a unique skate show spectacular late in the afternoon at every Big Day Out in NZ and Australia.
THE KINGS OF VERT
Some of the best vert skaters from the current World Cup Skateboard circuit are put together to showcase skateboarding today: Elliot Sloan, Alex Perelson, Sam Beckett, Juergen Howwarth and Renton Millar. Three amazing demos a day at every Big Day Out means they’ll be easy to catch amongst all the other acts.
THE LEGENDS OF VERT
We have included some of our Australian talent with previous BDO Skate Show stars of the past, Nathan Beck, Trevor Ward, Rj Barbaro, Adam Luxford and Micheal Mulhall.
Come down rampside and give the local crew some vocal support - Two BIG demos in each city at all Australian BDO shows.
THE BIG DAY OUT SKATE RAMP
A vert skate ramp, purpose built, for the BIG DAY OUT 2012 tour… a 14ft high x 40ft wide beauty. Nothing like building a brand new perfect ramp to inspire the BDO skaters to go over the top. This ramp promises to be the best BDO Vert ramp ever
THE BIG AIR SHOOTOUT 2012
We held the Australian High Air Championships amongst all the skate show action on the Big Day Out 2001 tour. Jason Ellis won that one in Perth, with Adam Luxford coming in a very close 2nd.
So let’s do it again. This time we will be holding some unique high air comps for the BDO skaters to go for ; most 540’s, Highest ollie, etc. A nice ‘go for it’ ending to the skate show day.
Why skateboarding should always be a part of Big Day Out?????
Put simply, whether you roll or not, skateboarding is simply brilliant to watch, and that entertaining factor when combined with 1. A massively pumped up crowd, and 2. Some of the best bands on the planet playin some of the best tunes goin ...........
With the old added saying of “they say that things always happen in threes”, and therefore this is 3. Why skateboarding should always be a part of Big Day Out!!!!!
Why should skateboarding be a part of Big Day Out???
Aside from the obvious (skating is hell entertaining and there’s nothing like watching quality skating with a pumped crowd), skateboarding should be included in every major outdoor festival simply because it would attract more skaters. Skaters are bloody cool and everyone loves them! So if people know there will be loads of skaters at a festival then they’re bound to be more likely to want to attend, thus making a higher chance of a sick crowd of dudes n chicks to rock out with and see some hardcore stunts!
Cheers.
Skating is important for big day out because we need the new kids of today to get off these scooter things, they are just flooding our skate parks. And who is the best to show these kids how to shred the vert ramp, thats right Towny Hawk. Plus it will get us all back on the nintendo 64 playing towny hawks pro skater 2.
Skateboarding is now synonmous with the Big Day Out. Alongside the ecletic mix of artists it provides a major point of difference. The Big Day Out without skateboarding would be like a croissant without butter. Also it inspires, is another way to participate and encourages physical activity - that’s got to be good!
Skating should defiantly be apart of big day out and continue to be. Why? Well think about it, when your out skating chances are you have your iPod in right? Nothing beats cursing town or seshing a spot than doing it to your favorite tunes. The thing is music and skating are actually pretty closely linked. If listing to music can inspire someone to skate harder, then why can’t gazing upon the worlds best skaters at big day out also inspire bands playing. What a better way to show the link between the two than to have, and continue to have the worlds best skaters at Australia’s premier music festival. This is why skating should and continue to be a part of big day out.
Since the dawn of time when cavemen made skateboards out of boulders and music from sticks they have always dreamt that maybe one day they could put them both together and have an event which will make history itself.
Ladies and Gentlemen! This event is finally here!
In 2012 skateboarding will finally become a part of BIG DAAYYYY OUUTTTT!! :O
Myself, and the cavemen that used to skate millions of years ago think that skating should definitely be apart of big day out!
Music and skateboarding are tight, they’re like best friends. In fact, they’re more like lovers.
They are made for eachother, like bread and butter, knives and forks, the sun and the moon and Mizu and Boardworld.
The bands at Big Day Out represent the musical lifestyle of skating and they also cater to a lot of genres that skaters and other people will enjoy, from the chill sounds of The Living End to the freaking awesome “get you pumped up so bad you will tre flip 12 sets” sounds of Parkway Drive and The Amity Affliction!!
That my friends…Is why I think Big Day Out and skating should be together forever
P.S Think about the cavemen who didn’t have iPods or anything! :(
Ya bound to win now that ya mentioned my name, BKM!!!!!
Skateboarding - F$#K YEAH!
Skateboarding is the most widely known extreme sport on the planet.
From the North to the South to the East to the Kanye West, Skateboarding is everywhere you look.
Whether your just cruising down Parkway Drive or grinding the Architecture In Helsinki.
Like millions of others, my love of Skating is like a Chemical Romance, complete addiction.
We need skating to add some visual delight to our Soundgarden, the same way that we need that Bassnectar to compliment the sound of wheels slapping against the wood as they come back down to earth.
This skate tour sounds so rad I just want to scream it from the Hilltops.
And it’s a great Drapht for the Odd Future of skating and sounds everywhere.
From 1992 to the Living End - Skating and the Big Day Out were meant to rock together.
Hahahaaa, good shit Andy!!!!!
Tony Airwalks (to the tune and beat of Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks”)
Yo, We at war
We at war with scooterism, bladism, and most of all we at war with ourselves
(Tony Skates)
God show me the coping because the Devil trying to hang me up
(Tony AirWalks with me) with me, with me, with me [fades]
You know what the Big Day Out is?
gnarly and vert
Where pro (skaters) go crazy like they can’t get hurt
And next these (skaters) bust out a sad invert
nobody needs to tell these (skaters) who Tony Hawk is
master of the halfpipe where the shadow of death is
Just climbing the platform gonna leave you breathless Uhhhh!
Try to catch that indy kick Uhhhh! It’s kinda hard
Getting stoked is the objective yeah yeah now check the Method
They be asking us questions, harass and applaud us
Saying “that dude does 900s for breakfast”
Huh? Renton’s flying with no grab? What’s the basis?
him and Stabb doing ollies into outer spaces
if you think the vert sucks
wait till you scope the style of Lux
My momma used to say only Jesus can save us
Well momma I know I act a fool
But I’ll be gone all January I got urethane to move, it’s dope
[Hook x2]
(Jesus AirWalks)
God show me the coping because the Devil trying to hang me up
(Tony AirWalks with me)
The only thing that that I pray is that my feet don’t fail me now
(Tony AirWalks)
And I don’t think there is nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
(Tony AirWalks with me)
Imma gonna land this 540 but I been floating up here so long
To the hustlers, killers, murderers, drug dealers even the BMXers
(Tony AirWalks with them)
To the victims of Sydney council for we skating in hell here hell yeah
(Tony AirWalks with them)
Now hear ye hear ye want to see Thee more clearly
I know Tony hears me when his feet get weary
Cause vert will never be extinct
We vert skaters are role models cause we grind we don’t think
I ain’t here to argue about parks with nothing but street features
Or here to convert ledge riders into bowl believers
I’m just trying to say the old school’s got plenty of teachers
we need them now like a Horror film needs creatures
it started in dogtown, now we all needs this
They say you can rap about anything but vert
That means guns, sex, lies, pornographic video dirt
But if I talk about Tony my record won’t get played Huh?
the man who made the first 900 spin
so dope God forgave all our sins
so bring the day that I’m dreaming about
Next time I’m at the BDO everybody screaming out

I have a better idea, you tell me WHY skating shouldnt be involved in the BDO?
WHY SHOULD SKATEBOARDING ALWAYS BE A PART OF BIG DAY OUT? BECAUSE…
A talent that amazes, impresses and takes more skill than any typical band.
Whether you’re skating to the sound of kayne west or kimbra,
When you’re Skate boarding its just you and the board,
working as a team and at that moment nothing else matters.
skating is more skilful that singing or playing the drums and has been known to gather triple the crowds of a rock concert.
So why wouldn’t you show the world your skills at Australia’s biggest festival?
