How about this;
https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/1240/

It’s a sticky thread currently sitting directly above this thread in the Photography and Filming section of this sight. It will get you most of the way through the editing process before needing to open Premier Pro or any other higher end program.

AS for GoPoo - it will suffice for novice videographers and do as good a job as most P&S camera’s (but restricted to GoPoo’s mounts)
Vio does not need to be mounted to a helmet - it is light enough to mount on a goggle strap or even a pair of sunglasses! (been there, done that) It comes with the goggle mount supplied in the kit. One cable that runs to recording unit that is small enough to fit in your jeans pocket.

The only thing I truly have against GoPoo is that iIS NOT a HeadCam, but it competes in that market, stealing the thunder of dedicated camera’s designed specifically for action athletes. Worse still - there is no need for it when camera companies have been building the same thing (but better) for over a decade.

I’ve been singing this same song for many years now. But as I sit here surrounded by all my pro video equipment (as I prepare for a shoot on Sunday), I realise there is little need for point of view camera’s in the debate of quality. It’s about offering convenience - not quality. It’s about convincing people they need to buy something even though they already own a product that does the job.

Yep - it’s the hot item on everyones wish list.
But lets face it - the audio sucks, the functions it has on offer will never be used, it’s useless for underwater footage and to make it half way equal to it’s marketing hype you’ll need to spend the same money on accessories and many thousands pro editing gear.

It’s simple to use, for simple users, that expect nothing more than simple footage.
You could buy a camera for under $100 that will get simple footage. “Eagle Eye” comes to mind or use your phone, or go out on a limb and pull that 2yo P&S out of the cupboard, play with the settings and surpass GoPoo. But you wont have the same item the Joneses have wink

GoPro is a safe camera to own but I see it as little more than a gimmick made by a company who have cheated not just the consumer but dedicated R&D in the HeadCam field.

At the end of the day you wont regret having one.
However, if it was a tool in a tradies toolbox it would be the one that never gets used because there is always a better tool for the job at hand.
For the person who has a few tools in the bottom draw, at least it gets the job done.

So it’s like using a shifter instead of buying the proper size spanner :D

Yeah, with the proper tool it makes sure that ya nuts stay on!!!!!

I do understand your(spaz) concerns about other people using not the best product in it’s field but go for a cheaper and maybe badder solution, I too hate it when people use a smartphone of let’s say Samsung(it’s not personal) cause well lets admit it Apple as a company maybe a dick sometimes but the iPhone is the best phone ever ^^ but people buy other phones because they don’t want to spend 500$(more?) on a phone and it’s the same here
I take you for your word that the VIO / POV is the better camera but it’s also the most expensive! I’m a student so buying the most expensive isn’t an option even though I wouldn’t want something else then the best.
So for now I will still go with the GoPoo(:p) and maybe if I’m liking the shooting videos thing I will buy a better real-pro camera.

teacherboy off topic but Galaxy S2 > iPhone (jailbroken) I’ve owned both and it had absolutely nothing to do with the price. The new nexus may even end up being better again. Better zip my mouth though before apple files a lawsuit against me. michelle

I understand why sheeple buy GoPoo - but I can’t justify some of the reasons they give.

Being budget conscience means having to compromise and be smart.
Drift Stealth is the camera someone with a students budget should consider. Retailing at $269 it’s a 25% larger but has as good (if not better) footage than GP2.

Dealers can’t advertise less than rrp but can afford to offer $50-$60 of product with the sale of the Stealth (SD card etc.), with negotiation there’s no reason you can’t get that amount discounted off the purchase instead.

Get in contact with the right person and you should be able get:
Drift Stealth for around $200
Drift HD around $300
POV.HD less than $600
I guess GP2 would get down to around $300

Are any of those cameras super waterproof? I’m not sure as I haven’t really looked into them lately. I think the fact that the GoPro is waterproof to 180 feet is a big selling point - at least it was for me. You can go diving with it, take it into huge surf etc.

spaz, do any of those other cameras compare in the waterproofing department?

Drift HD can do 30m with the waterproof housing

AFAIK Stealth can do 3m with waterproof pouch

GP2 as you mentioned is 60m with included case
