I feel kinda bad saying this, but from what I’ve seen I actually like the picture quality of the gopro (first one) vs the VIO. Sorry Spaz. Having said that, I’ve never really seen the VIO running on a good TV setup etc.

You’ve been watchin yaself in the Shredit 1.5 again, haven’t ya Dan!!!!!!  cool hmm

Mwmartlella, your joking aren’t you?

Maybe the dude that was filming with the VIO had it set up wrong, I don’t know but there was definatly no comparison so something must have been wrong?? The VIO footage was rubbish so maybe I am mistaken, has anyone got any links to VIO footage?

VIO POV1.5 (SD 720X480p) <still better than GP 1080p
compressed using iMovie to upscale to 1080 (similar to what GoPro does with it’s footage in the camera before saving to memory card)
Loaded to YouTube which heavily re-compresses it again - in 2010 yt used 720 as HD (they didn’t have 1080).
This footage has had at least 3 times compression so the quality is lower than what the camera shoots. Compression is more likely to be 4 or 5 times with editing.

VIO POV.HD (the ONLY miniture camera in the world with a 1080p sensor. It also has a 6 glass lens)
edited in iMovie HD, loaded to Vimeo
Not as heavily compressed as above but compression has happened.

If your comparing GoPro footage from videos you’ve seen on the net (skydiving that rider26 posted) or in movies like AoF - that footage has undergone treatment using thousands of dollars worth of software/hardware to bring it up to quality.

Side by side VIO is so much more when it comes to footage the camera lens captures before any compression, upscaling, filters, editing or enhancement has been made.
When I’ve put raw VIO footage through FCP and done a little manipulation it holds up to my $10,000 canon camera footage.
Even poorly shot or bad weather footage shot on VIO has so much more room to be improved than GOPoo.

GoProo is an over-marketed Point&Shoot; camera that’s build quality is so bad it has to be put in a plastic box for protection. It’s a cheap chinese knock off!

For the money spent you are better off buying an Olympus or Sony or Panasonic or Sharp or ....... any shock proof/waterproof P&S.

But people are sheep (sheeple) and GoPoo will continue to sell their camera’s to the fools that buy them. It’s the only reason I’m going to stock them, until now I stood my ground and only stocked what I considered quality but there is money to made from sheeple.

That’s a bit harsh, the gopro is awesome for enduros, I don’t know alot about the others but it does it’s job very well for me, figure it’s more of a personal choice rather than just plainly writing it off?? Each to there own and all that….

ps. maybe this is like comparing apples and oranges, seeing as though you use cameras in the snow i in the bush, plus in two different sports?

Baa Baa Baa…. my GoPro seems to work alright…...... Baa Baa Baa….....

I use camera’s in all environments. Snow, dirt, hunting, surf, motor sports, fresh water etc. etc.

I was the first person in the southern hemisphere to hire HeadCams and have been using/testing 95% of whats on the market since 2006 and putting miniature camera’s on RC aircraft/vehicles since first reverse engineering a security camera to build my own bullet cam before HeadCam was a word.

I’ve been a videographer for over 15years - since the advent of digital video and professional photographer for longer.

It’s not harsh - GoPro is marketing brilliance.

No intention to have a go at you Mwmartella, I respect that people are influenced by good marketing. And GoPro does put together an decent product - but not the best, even for the money. The company pulls the wool over the eye’s of it’s customers and doesn’t offer the greatest support to the dealers. They pump out so much product to make big profit from an inexpensive base unit that is heavily overpriced.

For enduros the battery life leaves a lot to be desired as will any 1080 camera. Storage is also limited on the higher setting even with a 32GB card.

VIO product is designed and built by MTB and Snowboarders. It became the ‘to be’ used product by US security forces as POV1.5’s battery life is 10hrs on a single set and it will record in “loop mode” ie:Constantly recording but saving only the footage you desire. A 4GB card holds 6hrs footage. THe batteries are AA - no need for recharging and available anywhere world wide. The camera lens itself is manufactured by VIO and the CMOS sensor specifically designed to meet action sport requirements. It doesn’t use a security camera made by Sony like every other lens/sensor, in miniature camera’s, in every other product - until recently.

GP2 has not yet proved itself in the market place.
POV.HD has issues. POV1.5 is the all time best HeadCam - spewing they stopped building them because of marketplace pressure/sheeple and the GFC.

Still not really convinced spaz oh oh

I do respect your experience in the field and I do agree with the marketing point of GoPro(they’re promoting EVERYWHERE).

I don’t know the techy specifications of camera’s but I think I can take your word for it that the POV is technically better.

But in my opinion, the POVHD looks epic but doesn’t look to handy to mount on a helmet.
The pole extensions you showed earlier looks good and certainly addresses the point of counter weight with the wrist.

Buuuut(it had to come): for people like me(just starting with shooting) a 100$ diffidence on a price of 300-400$ is really a lot! And I personally don’t think it’s worth it(again for me that is).
second: the GoPro is way smaller and as far as I can tell way easier to mount to a helmet/snowboard/(maybe even a surfboard).
Also I think AA batteries are most frustrating things I have ever met ^^ they always run out when they don’t need to(Gameboy memories coming back up :D) and replacing them sure is handy but I’m not planning on using a camera for 24/7 and I spend a lot(read to much) time behind a computer so recharging a GoPro isn’t really a problem

quote Mizu Kuma: “Baa Baa Baa…. my GoPro seems to work alright…...... Baa Baa Baa….....”
You are making a really good point there Mizu LOL

anywayz I still think that for me the GoPro is still the best option
If you disagree I would love to hear your opinion(cause lets admit it, you are the pro shaka )

Fair Call, I have a lot to learn about all of this kinda stuff, to be honest id love to make proper films with all the footage i have, however i struggle to get a grip with Premier Pro,

You wouldn’t have any links to some good tutorials or “how to guides” on the editing side of things?

I also strongly agree with the whole marketing thing, you have the benefit of experience from the start, i just got what was “hot” at the time, well it was a birthday gift so i didn’t do ANY research either.

Ive learnt something, the day is not wasted! (even tho im going to bed (Nightshift))!!
