Interesting ^^ now first I need to get the camera and then I probably will look for a pole
Hold the hand grip of the ski pole - the rig is balanced so it doesn’t put pressure on your wrist or ‘want to’ lose its level. The wireless remote is taped to the grip for single handed use and the lcd screen can be viewed for lining up shots, replay and function controls, you can also see the red or green led light (rec/pause)
The camera head is mounted using one of the supplied (star) mounts (it comes with a variety of mounts) - wrapped around the pole, held with cable ties. It allows the cam to slide on the pole and the mount lets the it rotate so any angle is viable.
The recorder slides into cable ties on a modified cup holder. This way it’s easily removed for battery replacement or to use off the pole as a headcam and is held securely.
The whole rig weighs about 300g (same as GoPro3d) using a carbon fibre pole and is super tough (it has to be because I break everything).
I have simpler set ups and designed a self rotating one so whatever angle it’s held the camera head will remain level - but haven’t built it yet.
THe problem with self contained HeadCams is that on the end of a pole you are fighting it’s weight with your wrist and within a few minutes of use you strain to have enough strength to keep it up. A counter weight is needed, then the weight of the rig increases.
Straining your wrist in this manner will lead to an RSI injury. I know!
The camera head on the VIO (pictured above) weighs 28g.
News on GP2 supply;
The distributors have been struggling to maintain stock levels since the launch of GP2 and all their newly arrived shipment have been allocated to dealers on waiting lists.
GoPro international have ceased manufacturing and no new GoPro’s will arrive on our shores until early next year when they begin again.
I cannot get GoPro2 until next year unless I buy at retail price.
The good news is that several thousand are being shipped to dealers this week but I am not one.
what about this for a cheapo option: iPhone mountable case

Bummer :( was looking forward to seeing what BWM pricing you had, thanks for trying though. I leave for japan on Jan 16th so looks like I’ll either need to source a gp2 somewhere else or go with a drifthd via you.

No good for the water, and the only setback is that ya have to have an iPhone to begin with!!!!!
Oh yeah, plus the fact that it then renders ya iPhone useless for calls!!!!!
And how will you feel when your iPhone gets smashed or lost. (Because I’ve never heard of a GoPro being lost!!!!!! )
I don’t think the senor in the iPhone could handle the fast pace that pov cams can at HD settings. Even the best cmos sensors still struggle. But maybe it can, we all saw how good riders footage was.
One of my arguments against gp has been that it is just a p&s camera in a hard shell. I think this adds to my claim.
Regarding the VIO camera, im not sure about snowboarding I’ve neve filmed it but the GoPro camera is far far superior in video quality than the VIO, although in my world they are helmet mounted so weight and balance are not really and issue…...
Mwmartlella, your joking aren’t you?
haha yeh mate you kidding?
dont get me wrong, i like the go pro and will grab one in the states cause i dont wanna fork out the more $$$ for a vio, but the GP is no where near as good video quality than the vvio
I feel kinda bad saying this, but from what I’ve seen I actually like the picture quality of the gopro (first one) vs the VIO. Sorry Spaz. Having said that, I’ve never really seen the VIO running on a good TV setup etc.
Speaking of the gopro I am prob gonna buy the gopro 2 soon. Launch helmet cam have it for $400, I’m guessing that’s the standard price in Oz? I noticed it’s only $300 in US.

quite happy, since I’m still rocking a 3GS! Anyway, I don’t regard that thing as a serious option, just putting it up for info.

Depends when you need one by. If you can wait until after the new year it would probably be worth hitting spaz up and seeing if he has stock in.
If not I’ve seen it listed in a few places in Oz for $369 or $399 with an included memory card etc. $399 is the full RRP in Australia which is a bit insulting when you look at the exchange rate vs the US
