OK, might as well ask this. What are you rocking on your feet when you’re riding?
Thick wool? Thin wool? Cot-in? Commando? Three pairs ‘cause your boots don’t fit?
I personally think having a good pair of socks really helps. I would rather spend a few extra bucks on a good pair than next to nothing for a cheaper pair. Most good socks come with a variety of fabrics with certain padding in critical areas to help with pressure. They have to breath as well. My choice is the Burton Phase sock.
I’m with snownut on that one. Good socks are essential riding gear. My personal choice is also the Burton Phase sock. They are the perfect thickness; the technical fabrics keep you warm, comfortable, and dry. They are designed purely for snowboarding - built in forward lean, different padding or cut-outs for reducing pressure points, no seams near the toes etc… I own about 12 pairs, although a few of those are starting to fall apart.
I have a pair of the Burton phase socks but they don’t even compare to my smartwool medium thickness ski socks (yes, they have forward lean construction too). I think smartwool has ‘snowboard’ socks but I’m not sure how they differ.
Smartwool socks are made from merino wool which is a 100 billion times better than any burton sock. There are two things about merino wool which rock.
1) they stay warm when wet. Sometimes in the bc we have to cross rivers, and sometimes my boots get wet. If I have smartwools on I know I don’t have to worry since my feet will be warm and feel good for the rest of the day even if wet.
2) they don’t stink. By the end of the season I sometimes get major boot funk. If I wear a pair of regular board socks then they pick up the smell and then walking around the lodge can be a little embarrassing. If I have smartwools, they don’t stink. period.
I have preference for the thinnest socks possible. Euroski if you into thin socks, are great. Seamless construction and no pressure points.
I like the high tech socks with thicker parts where you need it, then thin where you need it.
I had a pair of Burton socks to start with, which probably only lasted 3-4 weeks of riding.
I bought these other ones for like $60 after that, and they have been awesome (no idea of brand).
Then last year bought a pair of Aldi’s as a spare pair
$60 for socks????
yeah my burton pairs keeps falling apart in around half a season but for some strange reason i keep getting burton socks.
dont get me wrong they are good but there are better ones out there.
I have to ride with actual snowboard socks as my big toes cane at the end of the day if I don’t… Normally go for the $30-40 pairs as I’d prefer to replace when they ware out then to pay twice as much and have them last twice as long. New socks are just win
$30-40?? wow. Here you go, best socks you can get. $24US. Merino socks should be cheaper in Oz since you produce some merino wool there, right?

You’d think so… but alas, everything to do with snow is insanely marked up in Australia.
Geez, I just wear standard? white socks. My boots love my feet tho, I didn’t have to break them in before riding in comfort!

Yeah likewise..
I wear my standard cotton running socks but my boots are also ridiculously soft and amazing..
oh man, you guys don’t know what you’re missing!

What he said ^^
Please don’t use cotton socks for riding…
well, then again, every time I see an aussie they are walking around barefoot or in thongs…in deep snow.so maybe cotton socks is pretty tech for them lol
