Many of the cars stuck in ditches on the side of mountain roads are there due to angry, frustrated drivers trying to make up time after some inconsiderate road hog selfishly expects them to “take a chill pill”, “get up earlier” or “take their time, smell the flowers”.

no they are there because the drivers made a bad decision

Wrong, they are there because some selfish moron acted like an inconsiderate asshole, and the frustration pushed them past their limits of rationality.

Caboose - 01 December 2011 04:34 AM

if you are angry, you shouldn’t be driving

Then selfish drivers should be banned from our roads, so others wouldn’t get angry.

I hate the speed wankers that have to drive up the hill at 100km

Why? If they can do so safely, then what’s the problem?

Caboose - 01 December 2011 04:34 AM

i drive at the speed limit, overtake at your discretion, but don;t put my life in danger while doing it

If someone wants to pass you, why not just make it easy for them to do so? Why be so selfish?

Caboose - 01 December 2011 04:34 AM

as mizu said before - only going to save 10mins or so

Even if it is only ten minutes (it’s rarely that little, once you multiply that by the number of selfish drivers out there), WHAT right should anyone have to selfishly take that time away from anyone else???

It’s a statistical fact that slow drivers are “nature’s D students”.

I’ve never heard that one before, but I’m pretty sure that fast drivers are “natures compost”!!!!!

This is truly entertaining now.  I hate slow drivers that cannot drive at the speed limit, I hate ppl driving caravans pretty much on sight (guilty until proven innocent), but I am not a fan of some clown up my arse while I’m doing the generally accepted 10% higher than the speed limit.  I have driven fast cars for a very long time and I have lost count of the amount of times despite being consciously courteous in my manner of overtaking to avoid being labelled a hoon, I have still been given rude hand gestures as I go past.  If you want to do 10kmh below the speed limit that your business, it’s also my business to overtake you when safe to do so, why do you feel the need to be a farkwit about it when I overtake?

**i fail at quoting **  blank stare

If you can do it safely (aside from breaking the law part) but the problem with this is most people can only think they are doing it safely

i hate slow drivers as much as the next but reckless endangerment is by far worse

Dad always told me slow drivers cause more accidents on country roads because those caught behind are forced to take greater risks to get past them.

I’ve had some surprisingly good slow cars pull over lately when a build up of traffic occurs behind them - this never happens on weekends.
I’m a self confessed fast driver (not a hoon). Rarely do I get given the finger, rarely do I get pulled over by the police - even when I overtake them!
I believe it has more to do with the shock value of my car accelerating so fast. Occasionally the odd hoon will expose themselves by trying to outdo my little car. When that happens I just chill - the road isn’t a race track. (unless they are an obvious doofess and the road is safe & clear - then I’ll see how far they are willing to risk their life/license).

I often feel guilty of hooning on the Alpine Way - in reality I’m driving how I would in the summer months.
I’ve pulled over and let plenty of dicks pass, there is no point on a crowded road.

i concur

and chucky you are sounding like a tool

save yourself a blown blood vessel and get up 10mins earlier

after 7:30 there is traffic from Jindy to Perisher
after 8am there are traffic jams
i don’t know what happens after 9am

deal with it

no one is forcing you to do anything

you choose to do, it is your decision to do “high risk” stuff - ie speeding to get past them

It’s a statistical fact that slow drivers are “nature’s D students”.

I’ve never heard that one before, but I’m pretty sure that fast drivers are “natures compost”!!!!!

Why would fast drivers be “natures compost”? With accidents genuinely CAUSED by driving at speeds in excess of the posted limit accounting for such a minor percentage of the overall tally, it’s more appropriate to say that slow drivers are “natures compost” - as many more accidents occur at speeds under the posted limit than over. The only relevant variable is that an accident is more likely to result in a fatality at higher speeds - but first, an accident actually has to occur, and that’s largely irrelevant to speed.

The whole “speed kills” mantra is just a marketing ploy.

Brainwashing the gullible with their message that “speed kills” is simply how the RTA gets away so easily with their extortionary tactics. Of course with the percentage of accidents actually CAUSED by driving at a speed in excess of the posted limit being less than 3% of the overall tally, the truth is that their revenue raising has bugger all to do with road safety - especially when you consider that the overwhelming majority of fines issued are only for minor speed infringements (accounting for exactly NONE of the accidents actually CAUSED by driving at a speed in excess of the posted limit).

To justify raising their hundreds of millions in revenue, the public has to buy into the RTA’s deceptive propaganda - so the major focus has to be on that 3% at the expense of the rest.

Some people may be perfectly comfortable with irresponsibly ignoring the MAJOR causes of road accidents just to make money, but many intelligent rational people are not.

Still, with far too many gullible people around to willingly swallow anything the revenue-raisers spoon-feed them, the RTA will be making a fortune while avoiding genuine road safety issues for a long time to come.

i think you will find the problem of the “going fast” thing really comes down to stopping distance & the operators ability/experience to “drive” esp in suburbs, on the open road, not so much

the faster you go the bigger the mess when you fark up

btw what kinda car have you got chucky?

chucky you are sounding like a tool

. . . in YOUR deluded opinion.

In my opinion, YOU sound exactly like a prime example of one of the selfish morons who don’t give a crap about anyone else on the road.
