It’s snowing right now. They didn’t forecast much snow but it’s falling reasonably heavy at the bottom. Going for a shred soon. Will let you guys know how it is.

FYI, avalanche danger is really high at the moment.

Some questions,

Tipping, What’s the run down?????

ATM’s, do they take Aussie Cashcards????? (Will be taking VISA Debit/Credit anyway)

Bottle’os, where’s the best one?????

I’ll come up with more as I think of them, I’m sure!!!!!  cheese

Tipping: 10-12% for average service, 15% for good service, 20% for excellent service. That’s about the standard. Cabs you usually tip 10%. Food delivery, 10% etc.

Yeah, I think you can withdraw from ATMs with Australian cards. There is usually a fee though, I think around $3 per transaction.

There’s a few bottle shops. There’s one in the village, one at Marketplace (where the big IGA is), and there’s a couple in Creekside as well.

I’m sure you will… wink

Rider’s Blog: Day 1

It snowed pretty much all day today. There must have been about 15cm of fresh snow outside our house by 3:30pm. Today was my first day back on a snowboard, and I have to say it was great to be back on Whistler Mountain. I rode till last lift, although I started late.

There was quite a bit of fresh snow on the mountain by the afternoon, at least 15cm I’d say, probably more in the trees. The snow quality was good and the cover is decent, however it’s still hard and chunky underneath in most areas. I put that down to the rain/freeze over the last few days.

The terrain park only exists at the top, with a selection of boxes and rails, and two small jumps. It doesn’t look like they have started work in the mid and lower areas of the terrain park. Still, there’s a decent selection of features to slide on up the top.

The cover down to Creekside was pretty sketchy (technically it’s still closed); it’s ungroomed, chunky, and icy, with exposed areas. Still, it’s definitely rideable with caution. I’d imagine the ride out to the village would be similar, if not a bit better (not sure if they’ve started grooming over there).

Overall, the mountain is looking really good. I think we’re one good snowfall away from the cover being good enough to ride pretty much all non-alpine terrain. It’s still early season conditions out there, so take it easy while you build up your strength.

Nice update Jeremy. Sounds like excellent cover seeing as it only recently opened up. The lighting looks so eery and dark in those photos.

Mizu, yeah you can use your normal Oz debit cards. I withdrew all my money that way last season. Although I worked out you get screwed ever so slightly less if you pay for things with your credit card, so I would use that for larger purchases. It was much the same though really.

I thought the ride out to village was ok. Wasn’t bad considering this is still early season.

Cheers Dan!!!!!

Yeah, VISA credit/debit gave the best rate exchange without fees when we went to Japan, so I was thinkin it will be pretty much the same over in Canada!!!!!

Will just take the Cashcard as a backup source!!!!!
