Packing Tips for Shred Trips!

Hmm okay need to check with Qantas… maybe thats what they were saying… i can take the second bag as long as both don’t equal over 23kg..

That prob wont help me though.

I will have to do a dummy run at Christmas to see how much it weighs with all my ski gear in there.

just reading the Qantas checked baggage
something i never knew about

Where possible, we will endeavour to carry Checked Baggage on the same flight as the passenger. However, Checked Baggage may at times need to be transported on a later flight, in which case we will deliver your Checked Baggage to you unless you are required to be present for customs clearance.

anyway

what your saying is correct
combined total of two bags = 23kg

this is why I’ve seen people wear their helmets and boots onto the plane along with their snow jacket

Air NZ used to have a separate 10kg sport allowance which has since been canned (2yrs ago)

Yeah, Air Canada must have had somethin similar then!!!!!!

Air Canada is 23 kg. So lame. They make it so hard to travel with sporting equipment.

Mizu, are you all booked?

10kg carry on ay, thats a far amount.

Any recommendations for a good carry on? i only have small backpacks atm confused

I normally just have a good back pack, so that way ya have ya hands free to cart ya wheelie bags etc, and can access ya passport etc as ya make ya way through the gauntlet!!!!!

Just gotta make sure that it doesn’t exceed the dimensions as well!!!!!

Standard article
Maximum size:
23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm
(9 in x 15.5 in x 21.5 in)
Wheels and handles included.

Maximum weight:
10 kg (22 lb)

Oh yeah BB, I’m pretty sure that I did mention it before but anyway,

you/or ya travel agent, let Air Canada know that ya will be carryin boards????? Or they will hit ya up as an extra when ya check in!!!!!

Oh i thought that was only if you had more than one board in a bag.

So even if im just taking one board in a board bag i have to let them know in advance?

Yeah mate, otherwise I was told that they would charge ya over $300, if ya waited till check in time!!!!!

Ya travel agent might have already done that, but ya can ring direct and get them to note it for ya!!!!!

Call 1300 655 767 Toll Free from Aus!!!!! My agent had skis noted ( hmmm ), and the girl at Air Canada even changed it to Snowboards caused she reckoned that it might have made a difference!!!!! It’s so friggin complex, and they probably wont give a shit when ya rock up, but I just like to have a comeback if they wanna whack some way out charge on me when they know they have ya by the hairy love eggs!!!!!

hey mizu i finally got round to calling air canada

according to the lady i spoke to, since i booked my flights ages ago (before they changed the system to one piece check in per person) i am able to check in a board bag under 23kg and a suitcase under 23kg. Which is awesome! I explained that i was originally plaining to just pack everything into my board bag and she reckons they would have charged me extra as the board bag can only contain snowboard & boots confused

it’s all pretty confusing but i hope she was right, and when i rock up to my flight with a suitcase and a boardbag i don’t get charged!

When I was in my teens (soooo a long time ago!) we had a crazy amount of hand luggage & we use to hide it under our jackets. we were always the last people off the plane and not hide anything when disembarking the flight attendants eyes would pop out of their heads and ask how we got on the plane with so much stuff - we just used to shrug!

if the gig is your only checked luggage than you will have no problems once you start lugging two pieces of checked luggage (like what black banana seems to be doing) that’s where fine print comes in

dont advise taking two pieces of checked to japan anyway…there really is no need + it makes travelling in public transport with your gear from hard to freaking hard
