Bummer mate. Would have been awesome to meet up when we’re there shut eye

On flight prices, last I’ve seen it was $1750-$1800 for when I wanna go. I really shouldn’t delay much more by the sounds of those price jumps…

There’s a few of us talkin a Niseko/Hakuba/Tokyo/Kyoto trip for 2012/13 season, so we decided to check out The United States of Canadia!!!!! (I’ll probably get mugged for that last remark)

If ya goin in march, the airfares are still around the price that ya quoted, Dan!!!!!

yeww this forum is all time!!

heading over to whistler from sydney for my first ever season! keen as leaving on the 30th of november(last uni exam on the 29th!). only thing is im a little bit unprepared because ive only decided on this 2 months ago haha. ill be taking about 4500 so im going to need to find a job asap. from my understanding all the job fairs have been on last couple of weeks so missing out on that sucks, but hopefully theres still some dishpig positions going round!! haha. ive booked 2 nights in Samesun hostel in vancouver but im thinking now i should just get a bus straght from the airport to whistler?? i arrive at about lunch time. will b sleeping on a mates floor, matt coates who got over there about a month ago, but dont want to be in his hair too long so will probably have to go into a hostel and burning money on that will be annoying.

annyyyway if theres any additional advice I can get from you guys it would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Skip Van, unless you haven’t got the gear you need. I didn’t enjoy the city that much and the mountain wasn’t even open. I couldn’t imagine doing it knowing i could be up there shredding. Maybe spend a day there and be super active, get your gear, phone and SIN. Hostel wise, the cheapest you’ll get is HI-Whistler, out at Cheekamus. Its about 15 minutes bus trip from the village and its like living in a bunk hotel, I can’t recommend that place highly enough (Though meeting the right people there helped). There’s still plenty of jobs going around, just gotta get your name out there and keep keep keep keeeeep going back into the place. Make yourself known.

And as Rider will tell you, Stay posted on this thread. Apparently there’s a sushi meet up happening soon raspberry

Hey bigkev, welcome to BW.

Yeah I’d be shooting up the mountain as soon as possible - sooner you’re up there the sooner you can start looking for a job.

Just make sure you sort out your SIN (same as a Tax File Number in aus) in Vancouver before heading up as you’ll need this in order to be employed anywhere. Once you’ve got that sorted I’d shoot up the hill. The office is around a 10-15min walk from the samesun hostel - pretty much walk straight down granville st which is the same street as the hostel.

and yes.. sushi meetup will be early Dec wink

Welcome to Boardworld, bigkev13! cool smile

I’m doing some last minute packing myself, so no real time to give you advice right now. I will do when I arrive in Canada. There is some good info in this thread though: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/3053/

Just wanted to say welcome to the community, and as Korver mentioned, stay posted on this thread. wink

I’ll have a t-shirt for you when you arrive. You definitely need to catch up with us for dinner, beers, and especially a shred!

See you guys soon! Yeeeeeeew! shaka

Sounds good!

Yeah will get the SIN sorted in Van and stick with the 2 nights then get straight up the mountain. I pretty much have all my gear sorted apart from board/bindings/boots…. would it be best to get that in van or whistler? As much as I will want to be shreding the slopes ASAP think my priority is going to be set on getting a job before I do anything, last thing I want is to come home early.

Thanks for the help Korver and finney!  cheese

Yewww cheers for the welcoming!!

Joining this community has made me 100 times more keen.. see u guys soon!

You can get a great deal on 4th/burrard in vancouver, but there is plenty of gear available in Whistler and if you get a season pass you get 20% off in places and if you work for the mountain up to 50% off.

Do I get a T-shirt Jez!?
