have you ever tried crossfit? pretty good for developing strength and stamina and you do lose weight…a bit addictive too but guess there are worse things out there to get addicted to…
yeah - like junk food
but its soooo good! Bananas are good too, I’ve been eating sooo many of then these days! There is an add on TV about bananas, I think its working a little too well…. :S
Went for a run again today…finally seem to have kicked my sickness and am back into it. Its only the 6th run I’ve managed to do since I tried to start but I pushed myself pretty hard today. I was kinda dizzy at the end but was nearly a minute faster than my slowest run that I’ve done so far.
Between starting and getting sick and then starting again I managed to put on a few kgs which is pretty frustrating but I’m pretty determined. Its not so much about weight as fitness for me anyway. I love the freedom of being fit and I want to feel like that again! the kgs coming off will just be a sweet bonus.
I made a running playlist for my mp3 which definitely helps at different points to keep pushing. Its a pretty weird mix but it works for me!
Got soccer tonight so two bouts of exercise for the day will have me feeling good tonight. Its fun because once you get going, it becomes easier to be more motivated to eat better and whatnot.
how are you guys going? nthnbeaches? caboose?
Frustratingly! I have had 5 weigh in/measurement Tuesdays since I started and my weight has not changed worth shit! I have done 2"around the waistline which is good but I seem to filling in muscle as quickly as I lose fat, was hoping to have got past that stage a bit quicker as I wanted to be closer to 115kgs by my bday tomorrow. I look and feel better but every Tuesday for the last couple have given me a major internal turmoil/motivation meltdown. Only lasts that arvo then sure enough I’m up at 4:40am Wednesday morning going again. 8-10 x 40 min walks and 5-6 weight sessions a week and VASTLY improved diet is still going too slowly for my liking.
maybe cut down on the weights sessions a bit and do some more cardio if you’re really wanting to see some weight come off?
5-6 weights sessions a week is a LOT! Unless you’re on ‘roids or are a highly trained athlete, 5-6 sessions is probably not giving your body enough time to recover, either. You’d have to be well into the Buff shakes to be getting enough protein!
I’d cut down to 2-3 sessions of weights max per week and hop on a bike or on the treadmill or do boxing or swimming for the other sessions. I reckon if you do that, you’ll start to see the weight fall off at a lot faster rate.
I do body part splits Cords but even still it is a heavy volume at the moment, basically trying to shock the crap out of my system and get into gear as fast as I can. I’m fairly aware of my limitations physically when it comes to overtraining. I figure I can hold out for another 2 weeks like this before I start to get into seriously diminishing returns territory.
My CNS needs a bit of shake up after such a long fairly sedentary period and this has been working well for that purpose. I don’t know if you subscribe to the theory of muscle memory but I think this has a bit of a bearing in whats going on at the moment regarding my weight. Tomorrow I’m swapping my morning walk for a soft sand jog to step up the cardio aspect of it. I would dearly love to go for a surf but it’s struggling to get to ankle height and has been for some time now.
geez, i’m going to come across like a born-again something now, but nthnbeachesguy, there are 5 crossfit gyms in northern beaches (1 manly, 2 brookvale, 1 narrabeen, 1 warriewood) and the combo of exercises and good diet will make you drop kgs…i have lost 5kgs in the last month and a half and whilst am still not at my riding weight, well on path to it…
plus you get stronger and get great stamina and perversely enough, it is fun…
Pow wow I’m well aware of crossfit and it’s cultish following ha ha, I think I even posted some vids on BW a while back of a crossfit guy doing pistol squats while holding a kettlebell above his head whilst balancing on top of another kettlebell, pretty impressive stuff.
My frustration is probably born out of how far I let myself go whilst deluding myself that I wasn’t more than about 4 weeks from being fit again. That delusion is being put through the woodchipper at the moment and it doesn’t feel very nice.
I played a game of tennis against a mate yesterday, neither of us had played for some time but suprisingly we weren’t too bad at it. With that said I ended up as a massive ball of sweat but still managed to win in two sets 6-3, 7-5. I thought my elbow was fine again after axing it in early sept snowboarding but my first service game told me otherwise, the combo of straight arm and impact with the ball wasn’t pleasant at all, my knees are pretty sore today as well. The sarvo I’m hoping to have a soft sand run and then grab a rescue board for a headland to headland paddle, break up the weights a bit with some more cardio.
@NBG - october fitness - combo of work & rain stuffed up ridin g to work
@Cords - just have music on random when running or riding - anything for a distraction - although i do like listening to my own thoughts sometimes
Still under 85kg - riding to work is a no brainer now
NBG - pistol squats with a kettlebell over his head and balancing on another kettlebell? He must have been the Crossfit Messiah.
Hear what you say re being pissed off about letting yourself go. Been there and relive it occasionally. But the important thing is that you are cracking on with something now and at some stage it will come good. That assumes that you are true to yourself and really give whatever you do full passion.
Am lucky enough to be getting off to the US in January so having a goal in mind is helping me a lot.
Best of luck with the regime and maybe bump into you at some stage (am in Northern Beaches as well).
Good work man.
Takes a lot to get into it.
Beginning is always tough
Boardworlds here for ya!!
One little rule of thumb I have that helps.. Is with drinking.. Hard to cut it out completely.
But i refuse just have have a beer or two. Saves you money and calorie count.
Ill only drink if its a night that I’m partying/going out.
Just a little tip
Last week was a decent week exercise wise, my bday didn’t help too much with the diet though so tomorrows weigh in should be interesting. Did 3 weights sessions last week which is down on the normal but I did do about 40mins soft sand run followed by a length of the beach paddle on a rescue board on Tuesday. Followed it up with an hour soft sand run on both Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning did about 25 min run then had a wedding that night. Didn’t get too hungover and the next day a mate and I took a couple of rescue boards for a paddle to the reef.
So nice yesterday, wind was offshore, water was awesome and there was no one around on the reef, just walked and sat around out there for about an hour. My mate and I have done this countless times over the years, when we were younger we used to get the double surf ski from the club, load it up with fishing rods, knives and some water bottles and paddle out there on flat days and fish using shellfish off the reef as bait, kinda reminded me of that yesterday especially when we started hatching plans for building a house out there, one of those things you talk shit about when you’re younger.
Started off as a small shelter then over the course of the hour we had grand plans for an enormous mansion on large concrete poles that ran off solar power and desal water ha ha ha ha! Council permission was discussed and discarded as not necessary as we would use a stolen naval ship to transport the vast building supplies needed and then cannibalise the guns and fit them to the house so we could do everyone a favour by levelling the council offices with a few rounds from them.
This is kinda what we wanted,
This
