Depends on the compressign tights you get…..the ones I use for running have little thermal qualities compared to my merino wool thermals.  If you find them (and cn afford them) I think Skins and 2xU have thermal compresion tights (specifically for the snow) so you get the best of both worlds.

Personally I just use thermals and they do the job…..have done so for 15 years. I don’t really get “leg burn” (perhaps my legs are conditioned?) so I find I have little/no need for compression tights at the snow. If I went to thermal compression tights now, I doubt I would get any huge benefit from them.

I am not sure what you are calling thermals, but I always wear a thin polyester long pant under my pants when snowboarding in colder weather.
I also wear a thin polyester shirt as a first layer as well.
I prefer the cut and style of most Burton First Layer pieces.
But I also have other companies. I really like the slightly slimmer, but not tight fit of the Bonfire first layer pants that I have.

I wear under armour compression shirts when boarding. They have a range called ‘cold gear’ for when it’s cold. Still compressions but keeps you warm. Also they have heat gear for when it’s hot. Great stuff, just don’t buy it from Australian stores, waaaay over priced. I buy it from the states instead.

If the compression thermals help for leg burn (thighs), I better get some!! anyone had experience with compression tights, for snow or otherwise?? Seen people use them but wasnt sure if they were gimmicky or worth the hefty price…

I have never used the compression thermals myself, but I have heard only positive things from those who wear them for skiing or snowboarding. Technically they are meant to reduce lactic acid in the muscles and reduce muscle fatigue. I can’t comment from my own experience.

I am the biggest fan of skins. I use them for soccer all the time and have also used them at the snow. Having really bad knees from previous injuries, I find them extremely helpul with both pain, reducing stiffness and recovery after sport.
For some background info- skins are useful for reducing lactic acid build-up, increasing muscle oxygenation and enhancing blood circulation. I know there are also specific skins for the snow- useful for optimising body temperature in cool conditions.
Skins are the best investment!!

For Under Armour Cold Gear Compression leggings, in Australia, you are looking at $120-$200 plus postage. Buy them from the States and they are $49USD ($58AUD) plus postage.

Crazy price difference…

Nothing beats some proper nutrition and hydration to FIRST avoid muscle soreness and repalir. Articles of clothing wont solve the problem, but it could help, I guess.
I dont have any experience with it, but I dont think that the Under Armor’s tight first layer garments is the item you are looking for to have a true compression effect and help muscle soreness.

I have personally used both, but hate that tight constricted feeling. Cant say i felt better after the skins experience either.

In Australian snow, I wear a t-shirt, underwear and my outerwear… and they are just shell stuff lol.

I just bought a pair of 2XU compression thermals cost $150 got a free pair of recovery socks! A bit expensive although any brand (burton etc) thermals are going to set you back a bit
I figure any help with keeping me riding longer and stronger is a positive thing, going to layer them with a pair of standard thermal long johns.
I have a mate who has been onto the compression thing for a few years and he swears by them for any sport.

When I get a few days wearing them I will report back.

2XU is definitely one of the brands I’d get. Runners magazine did a test and Skins/2XU were up there, along with Linebraker. They said the ones from Nike/Adidas didn’t have enough compression.

i tried boarding last year with just ordinary Skins under my pants and they seemed to go alright because of their ability to wick away the sweat and keep your temperature regulated. but they dont really provide the same warmth as thermals and really, compression tights are more for recovery, so its proably better to wear them at the end of the day back in the hotel, and the thermals when you are on the slopes

I bought Skins (snow) which is the thermal range, Wore them in Japan this year. Pretty expensive and they ripped in 3 days got my money back but I don’t think I will bother for next trip as I don’t think they really did much.
