Youtube monetisation: where youtube puts ads on videos you select and whenever the ads get clicked on you get a fee. you can only use it on videos where you own all the content or have permission for the audio etc
from what I understand you can only do it if youtube sends you a partner/monetisation invitation. I got one of these the other week and have set it all up and there is a few clicks and about 8c a click on average is being put into my adsense account.
Does anyone else have this set up for youtube? I figured I may as well do it as they put up ads anyway.
I got that too. Its all bit confusing though.
yeh thats what I was thinking….its a pain in the arse to set up. you would think they would make it easier
I went through the whole process last summer but when they reviewed my application I wasn’t having enough views of my vids and they wouldn’t partner me up.
I couldn’t see the point in trying to explain that all my viewings happen in a 3 month period during winter.
Baskwith is the one who could shed some light on any financial gain as he gets amazing viewing of his first person skate vids. But he doesn’t post much as I think he’s so busy skating and editing.
Has anyone actually clicked on an add on a youtube video. I don’t even look what they are for. I just go straight for the X to close the window.
I received the invitation a while ago. I think I have it enabled on one of our really old snowboard videos. Since then I haven’t enabled it on any videos. I don’t think they pay well and the ads are super annoying. spaz is right, who clicks on Youtube ads?
Baskwith would be having some success with this I’m sure.
EDIT: I haven’t logged into Adsense in ages but just did to check it out. So we have one video with monetisation enabled. The video has 95,000 views and we seem to be averaging $3.50 per month from it. That should give you some indication.
I bet that is from people who miss the x and accidentally click on the add.
95,000 views is a lot - Still every cent counts and that’s $42 a year - that’s enough to buy a half ok birthday present for Michelle
hm i wonder if it’s possible to write a little script to keep hitting the ad link every few seconds I guess they probably discount multiple hits from same IP.
I sometimes missed the “x” haha
Yeh but the little ads that come up over the video come up whether you are a partner or not so whether they are annoying or not is irrelevant.
you can also put up banner ads next to the vids, i tried that and checked it and the last few times it has been snowboarding ones next to my snowboarding vids which must increase the chances of hits….and I put a dog one up and theres some dog survey ad crap next to it but 10 people hit it out of 60 views…..if the ads are targeted there is more potential. Think ill do it anyway and see what happens
Hey guys! From what I know there are two ways you can get the adds and make money off videos on YouTube.
both are by allowing adds to be posted over your videos
The first most common one is monetization, which is basically offering to put the adds on the vids and yes you make a little money per click, it’s not much but its nice to know it slowly builds over years.
The second is by being offered the “partnership program” by YouTube, it is very similar to monetization but with the added benifits of being allowed to make clickable banners on your channel and personalized name badges above videos. It also gets YouTube to post your vids as “featured” vids more often.
You can choose to have adds or no adds on any of your videos past and present.
Note: you must own the rights to everything used in the video to claim monetization.
At first my YouTube account took about 2 years to build up to the $150 mark to which is the point you get sent a cheque from google, i was super excited about this haha.
now days with my channel growing a lot faster and me pumping out new vids entirely self created, I have been hitting the $150 mark every month or so.
I think its worth it for the adds, if people don’t like them, they click the ‘x’ and carry on watching
Cheers guys
