A mate of mine got a GP hours before the GP2 was announced.
Did some research yesterday on GP2;
-Still blurry underwater but you can buy an aftermarket flat lens for the housing to improve it.
-WiFi doesn’t yet do streaming. Waiting on firmware to be developed.
-Low light footage is still average.
-120fps is 480p (A little small for crisp/sharp 50” HD plasma viewing) and it’s restricted to 170• fov in that setting.
so are you getting one, spaz?
I’m not sure yet…
For the same money the DriftHD is much lighter and practical.

seen any video of it? Wonder if it has that wobbly jelly effect the Contour seems to.
Would love to see a comparison of the video quality of the hero 2 vs the drift HD as they are currently my top two contenders. Hoping to pick one up for my January Japan trip (mainly for easy recording of holiday memories not footage for AOF2) so I’ll probably go the duty free option sometime in December.
Pros for the Gopro
* Apparently great picture quality
* Waterproof so if I want to take it surfing it would be ready to go
Pros for the DriftHD
* Prefer the more discrete housing
* Built in lcd and remote are handy
* Built in tripod mount meaning it should be easy to connect to a monopod for polecam style recording
Is there anything else that should strongly direct me one way or the other? It will predominantly be used snowboarding helmet or pole mounted, and maybe one day used for surfing if I ever get good enough to be worth recording!
Rotating lens on driftHD - get any angle you want meaning doesn’t matter to badly about mounting the unit the right way.
Drift have an extending pole accessory.
70grams lighter than GoPro.
The first model that drift built (2009) was a little cheap on quality but many sailboarders used them with only a few getting water damage. Now there is a H2O bag or the hard plastic case (pictured above).
All Headcams get “video wobble” except for the first VIO (POV1 & 1.5) - the sensor captured video differently.
POV.HD also gets video wobble when the senor is working at full capacity (in drag racing cars under power & when I’ve belted the camera against a tree and stuff)-using different settings seems to reduce wobble by reducing the work of the sensor.
^Note: none of the above cameras in the caparison have 1080p sensors (their footage is upscaled before saving to the memory card-reducing quality)
I can’t find any comparison footage of GP2 vs Drift HD.
The reviews I’ve read lean toward Drift. Gopro2 is oversaturated so is contour.
Here is footage of GPhd, drift HD170 and Contour NOT GP2, DriftHD(mini)
seeing the gopro 2 dropping in price already: shopbot search
$324 not bad, not sure how reputable that dealer is though.
argh decision, decisions…
need to have my mind made up by december 19th

Haha I’m just about in the exact same position except I have until mid January. They both look like great cameras. I’m amazed how many camera reviews I’ve read now that don’t even mention or show the quality of the picture! I have the specs of each camera ingrained after hearing them a million times but I’m yet to see much in the way of drift hd footage.
I’ll be going for the GP2 once I’m over in Whistler - was impressed with the footage from last season and also the ability to capture stills constantly through the day. Had one setup at the base of the kicker out at booterville and it got some great shots through the day.
Here are two that I know were taken with the GP - stolen off Jeremy’s FB so they’ve been resized but can see they’d be fine for making prints etc.

how does that work? does it detect motion or just on a fixed timer?

does the drift have that slo-mo mode the GoPro has?
Trice, Terje and Mu all use the gopro and it shows up in the big movies. Then you watch twe12ve and you see Blair Habernicht with the contour strapped on his head but no pov video.
Watching vids like this is awesome:

the new gopro should handle bright whites better (fingers crossed)
