Hey guys, thanks for all the great info. I’ve settled on Utah. Just going to stay in SLC on the cheap;) and bus it up the hill each day! most likely to Snowbird and park city!

I have another question though regarding Jackson Hole, It was mentioned to me the other day by a dude that has been through the area recently that the place is starting to change and become a Scene-sters playground for the rich. I know movies like “That’s it, that’s all” have helped us all fall in love with the place. But would that really entice people to go there to gain status? I plan on working the season over there next yr 2012-13, has anyone been there recently and does it really have a changing face? I’m hoping not, the place looks so epic, it would be a shame for it to become snobsville.

When are you going to be in UT?

I’m moving there for work in 3 days, will be living downtown and riding Solitude and Brighton nights. I’d be happy to shred with ya for a day. Snowbird is rad if you like big & ballsy stuff. Solitude is quieter but nice & steep for freeriding. PC’s park is good, but I reckon Canyons is worth a look too.

Anyway, once you’re closer to arriving, send me a message and we’ll shred. Until then I need to find a house, car, etc etc!

I’ll try to keep you guys updated on my season in UT from here.

4 days after arriving in SLC I got my first good look at my home mountain. We hiked up one of the access trails for a look around and to build some sneaky wood features. There are a few log jibs already set up (thanks to a buddy of mine), and we set about building a little shack. All in all a great day working in the outdoors! On the way back we managed to (almost literally) bump into 2 moose just below the trail. That required a slow and cautious backing away and some bush-bashing through a higher line to avoid them

Good stuff, Andy. I’m looking forward to following your adventures this season.

At first glance at the pics I didn’t see the Moose, and then after I read ya post, BAM!!!!!

How did I only just find this???

I’ll be in Kirkwood, Tahoe from the start of December for 2 months with a little crew. Staying on the hill, but also have a car for a few roadtrips. Possibly driving to BC to meet up with some friends doing a season at Silverstar - if there’s enough Red Bull to keep us going for the casual 1800km drive…

Will be photog’ing and filming a lot, so I’ll try and post up here when I can.

Deano, will have to meet up for a ride dude. As long as you put a shirt on haha!

Enn Zed and Hall, I might be over your way for 3-4 days at some point. Hope you have a great season!

Oh we saw them. Holy fark they are big (not my first encounter, but first in a while). Docile, but you really don’t want to eff with them. It was a good learning experience for me, just keeping your wits about you even inside resort boundaries. Good to learn early, given that NZ basically has no wildlife that will do any damage to you.

I don’t think there are any issues with bears. Cougars are common apparently, and we ain’t talking about undersexed 40-something ladies!

Yeah, whilst I’ve never seen moose in real life, I have seen video of what they can do to a human!!!!!  gulp

I think that ya might be better off facin the cougar????? And I am talkin about both types!!!!!

No way - you treat a moose with respect and you’ll generally get out of there okay. Plus, moose can’t climb trees.

There’s no way that a cougar can be reasoned with. Logic does not prevail in that situation. And I’m talking about both types smile

LOL

I thought that logic would prevail somewhat????? With the furry feline type, that is!!!!!!

Thought I’d keep you fellas updated on SLC shred. I’ve had 3 days so far:

Day 1:
Hiked up Brighton for some early pre-season turns. A relatively easy hike because the snowpack was shallow enough that you weren’t post-holing. I say relatively because we’re at about 8000 feet so the air is thin! A great first day. I got a bit eager on a heelside slasher and dug through to dirt. Good times

Day 2:
F*CK ALTA! Hah, not really. We hiked up Alta (one of the 3 resorts in the US that doesn’t allow snowboarding) yesterday. The terrain is great up there, nice and steep with good features. 99% of all the other hikers we came across were super friendly, and the resort staff were cool too. They’re not open yet so it’s just a few staff members running the cats and sleds.
For fun:

Day 3:
First lift accessed day, at Solitude. About a foot of fresh and not many people there to ride it. It was slightly wind affected but still great. Definitely not full coverage so I managed to pick up a few shrubs & branches in my bindings, but awesome conditions for their 2nd day open.
Check out how busy it is for a pow day:
