Not really drc13!!!!!
You will have to pay a “single supplement”, that is nearly the equivalent cost of two people!!!!!
Unless ya can get a single room, or shared dorm style accom!!!!! Just shoot them off an email and see what options that they can find for ya!!!!!
drc13 - Just a suggestion…
If you haven’t been OS before maybe try and hook up with a boardworld member going to Whistler or somewhere? If you don’t have your hearts set on going to a particular place.
Hostels are a great way to save money when travelling alone. I can suggest the following:
Glenwood Springs Hostel (Glenwood springs is the support town for Aspen - it is a drive away tho)
Banff YHA in Banff Canada. One of the nicest I have ever stayed at.
The Lab in Hakuba has share dorms
And there are a few in Niseko.
You can also get private rooms at Hostels which are a lot cheaper than a hotel. And the great thing about this type of set up is that it is easy to meet people. Rather than going back to your hotel room.
I agree with Mizu ask Skimax they will have solo traveler suggestions. Even if money is not an problem they will point you in the most social direction.
Just wanted to say thanks to both Mizu and ozgirl for the explanation and advice.
I certainly don’t have my heart set on one place and I’d love to do Canada as well but being my first ever OS trip and first year of seeing the snow/snowboarding I figured Canada might be wasted on me and I’d really need more than 1 week to fully explore it. I’m hoping a week in Japan in January would give me a taste and the bug for travel whilst possibly being easier to adjust too (a tiny time difference, shorter trip, affordable)
I will certainly send off some emails and find out what my best options are as well, the big resorts seem to be niseko and hakuba I just need to work out whether I’m just going to be on the ski fields the whole time or whether I should try to fit in some “touristy” stuff as well.
I’ve just purchased a perisher freedom pass so I have our winter covered and in the perfect world I’d love to have a northern hemisphere option in my quiver for summer (if I can be dragged away from the beach).
Thanks again I really love this supportive boardworld community and I’m sure I’ll have many more questions once I get further into organising it.
Hello Snowboarders!
Not all of California’s superstars are in Hollywood. Around Lake Tahoe and in the High Sierra, you’ll find superstar ski resorts offering majestic mountains, mountains with jaw-dropping cliffs, serene glades and spectacular views of sapphire-blue Lake Tahoe. Epic powder, tight corduroy groomers, terrain parks and endless moguls - it’s all in a day’s skiing in California.
If a world of magnificent scenery, brilliant sunshine and first-class facilities isn’t enough, you’ll find the après-ski options will keep you entertained long after your day on the slopes ends.
And the snow has already started falling in California with the Tahoe resorts welcoming their first snow this week.
Our four most popular California resorts are:
MAMMOTH - scheduled opening day for 2011/12 season is 10 NOVEMBER
With over 10 metres of annual snowfall, thousands of acres of epic terrain and an altitude that keeps things white into summer, Mammoth turns winter into a 6+ month season. And with state-of-the-art lifts and gondolas and a variety of runs for all skill levels (including seven terrain parks) Mammoth Mountain embodies all that you love about winter.
HEAVENLY - schedule opening day for 2011/12 season is 18 NOVEMBER
With 4,800 acres, Heavenly is one of North America’s largest mountains. At over 10,000 feet, it is Lake Tahoe’s highest and its 3,500 vertical feet is unmatched on the West Coast. And just in case that’s not enough, the mountain peaks enable you to ski in two states – California and Nevada. It’s a mountain with long runs, wide-open groomed cruisers and pristine powder-filled bowls.
SQUAW VALLEY - scheduled opening day for 2011/12 season is 23 NOVEMBER
Squaw Valley is located at the end of a stunning alpine valley cradled by six high Sierra peaks nestled between Truckee and Tahoe City on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. Squaw Valley is unique among American ski resorts as it offers thousands of acres of open bowl skiing rather than traditional ski trails.
NORTHSTAR - scheduled opening day for 2011/12 season is 18 NOVEMBER
With 89 trails spread across 2,904 acres, world-class terrain parks and snow sports including alpine and telemark skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing, Northstar at Tahoe offer endless choice. And, with the Village at Northstar featuring shopping, dining, special events and a 9,000sqft skating rink, Northstar Resort offers something for everyone.

Hello Snowboarders!
Been holding out for a great Japan ski deal? Then wait no more as we have some great deals on offer, mostly for travel during March 2012.
HONG KONG - THE PERFECT JAPAN STOPOVER
When you fly with Cathay Pacific to Japan, you have the option of doing a stopover in Hong Kong. We’d recommend a minimum of 3 nights so you have plenty of time to explore this vibrant city - here’s our Top 5 Hong Kong must do’s.
1. TAI CHI CLASS
An absolute must when visiting Hong Kong is taking part in a Tai Chi class. Hour-long classes are held three times a week on the waterfront at Tsim Sha Tsui. And it’s FREE!
2. STANLEY MARKET
On the far side of Hong Kong Island, you’ll find the historic fishing village of Stanley and it’s market. In the lanes you’ll find vendors selling Chinese artwork, silks, clothing, shoes, handbags and lots of other souvenirs. Taking the winding road around Repulse Bay, the drive to Stanley is beautiful with great views along the coast.
3. VIBES AT THE MIRA HOTEL
In a great spot on Nathan Road, the Mira Hotel has the perfect spot to unwind after a long day’s shopping and sightseeing. Vibes is an open air bar located on the 5th floor serving up refreshing drinks on plush couches in private cabanas.
4. LAN KWAI FONG & OZONE
For nightlife you can’t go past Lan Kwai Fong on Hong Kong Island. With an assortment of eclectic bars, it’s a great spot for a night of bar-hopping and live bands. If the bar scene isn’t your thing, head to Ozone on the 118th floor of the ICC building. Part of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, it’s cocktails in the clouds.
5. KOWLOON PARK
Bordered by the busy streets of Nathan and Haiphong Roads, Kowloon Park is a little oasis right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui with fountains and waterfalls, an aviary and bird lake, a Chinese garden, a maze garden and much more.
This is by no means the limit of things to do in Hong Kong. Spend a day at the Happy Valley or Sha Tin horse races, take the kids (or the big kids!) to Disneyland to experience the new Toy Story Land, get your Gucci on at one of the many high-end department stores, take a cruise on Hong Kong Harbour and enjoy the skyline and harbour views from The Peak. And we haven’t even mentioned the staggering number of fantastic restaurants on offer in Hong Kong! Actually there’s so much to do, maybe three nights isn’t enough?
