So for those staying full season who and how much is your travel insurance ?

I usually buy my policy with http://www.worldnomads.com - $419 for a 6 month policy including travel to the USA and Canada. It’s a fairly solid policy too. I am yet to find a better value policy.

I went with world nomads for a year trip. After some injury problems during my season in Canada I was able to claim most of my Dr/physio appointments.

My last season i used an online vendor which effectively resold insurance that was provided by Mondial Insurance, i broke my scafoid (stupid little bone in the wrist that does shit all) while i was on the slopes and they covered everything. pretty easy.
They wouldn’t however pay for my visits up front. i have to fork out the cash and they fax the invoice to get reimbursed, which is a major pain in the ass but otherwise they were good. covered everything. and it was about $600 for a year.

That’s really cheap Rhys. Mine was about $700 for a year.

Hey blackbanana,

Southside Lodge is in a great location in Creekside. It’s across the road from the Creekside Market, liquor store, and lots of restaurants. You’re a short walk to the Creekside Gondola as well. Perfect spot really.

How much are they charging you, if you don’t mind me asking?

I also live in Creekside, so I’m sure I’ll see you at the gondola sooner or later. Even better, get in touch with me when you arrive and we’ll go for a shred! shaka

Where bouts are you staying? Also is there a pub near by? haha

Also taking the laptop over with me so when i get there i’ll be sure to post on here to organise a shred!

Are you going to be working? If you get a job with the mountain, you will get a free season pass and staff accommodation is significantly cheaper than that. There could be some jobs popping up around Christmas time, if people leave or get injured. Just an option.

Don’t lock yourself into a long term deal with Southside Lodge if you can avoid it. $35 a night ($1000 a month) is actually expensive when you compare it to normal rent, especially considering it’s a backpacker type lodge. Keep an eye out for rooms/beds becoming available once you arrive, or even before you get there.

Keep an eye on this page as the time gets closer. You can probably find something a lot better for cheaper.

Yeah, there’s a couple of pubs right nearby. There’s a smaller one just down the road and you’ve also got Dusty’s at the base of Creekside (literally a three to five minute walk from your lodge). Dusty’s is a sweet hangout spot.

nah not working whilst im over there, i’ve been saving all year so i can have a mad few months just boarding every day and relaxing smile
although if i decide i wanna stay longer (this is a likely scenario) then yeah i’ll defs figure out some work and alternate accommodation.

Where abouts does the boardworld crew work?  cool smile

I went with World Nomads also.  Most of my friends are with them, one went with 1cover and one with Southern Cross.

I applied to Whistler for the job fair on the 5th but haven’t heard anything and it’s pretty close, so I guess I’m not getting an interview.  I’ll head up for the bar job meet and greet days though.

Got two other interviews lined up plus three seasons experience so not really concerned!

Looking forward to seeing the place!
