This is what a proper bowl contest looks like – fast-paced, padless, super creative and endlessly entertaining. The first ever Vans Park Series event was a huge success at Melbourne's St Kilda skatepark over the weekend, with American maniac Chris Russell taking a tightly contested win over the likes of Pedro Barros and Kevin Kowalski.
Russell strung together a series of bangers in his flawless winning run, claiming a score of 89.67 to edge out Pedro Barros by a full 5 points. Kevin Kowalski was similarly entertaining in 3rd place, linking creative lines with his trademark trick selection to finish barely a point below Barros, making for an enthralling battle between the three.
The St Kilda contest was the first qualifying event of the 2016 Vans Park Series, a new contest circuit covering just about all corners of the globe. Further qualifying events will continue in Brazil, Vancouver and Huntington Beach, before the championship event at Sweden's infamous Malmo bowl later this year. Stay tuned for all the action.
