My name is Ryan Tiene and I'm the head coach and owner of a new snowboard coaching company, Turn & Burn Snowboarding Camps.
The Journey that led me to establish Turn & Burn happened within the last year. Coaching was always something I was interested in pursuing; I always put my hand up for guest coaching positions at SSA Futures, Torah Bright Mini Shred, and anything else that got kids excited about snowboarding. So, when I was asked to be Head Coach at TSC, I went for it. I went to work for TSC in Colorado for three months. During this time I gained invaluable knowledge about coaching and the business of running a camp. After 10 years, TSC decided to close its doors and I saw a need in the market. Coaching was already the path I wanted to follow, so I jumped at the opportunity with open arms.
I want to run my camp differently — my way. I want my camps to be fun. I have always found that having fun was the key to progression; if you can do that, you will learn, and it won't be forced. I don't want snowboarding to feel like training. We want the kids to learn about snowboarding, not just ticking tricks off on a list. From how to film a video part, do a pow turn, and get a photo in a magazine, to social media and everything in between, as well as learning tricks and skills along the way.
The most import thing in my eyes is that the kids go home so stoked about snowboarding and the camp even if they only learn a few new tricks. We are looking for kids that have a passion for the sport and want to make snowboarding their way of life and, if lucky enough, their career. It is my mission to nurture the next Olympians, rail and backcountry guys, photographers, filmers, and most of all, snowboarding lovers!
