It's been 10 years since Lakai released Fully Flared, a flick which is universally regarded as one of the best skate videos of all time. That video introduced millions of skateboarders to the likes of Alex Olson and Mike Mo Capaldi, featured a triumphant comeback part from Guy Mariano, and ended with one of the greatest sections of all time – Marc Johnson's 13-minute epic which single-handedly won him Thrasher's SOTY award. In Spring 2017 (Autumn for us in Australia), Lakai will release the long-awaited follow-up, set to be titled The Flare.
None of those skaters mentioned above remain at Lakai in 2017. In fact, apart from brand owners Mike Carroll and Rick Howard, the only skaters who appeared in Fully Flared and remain sponsored by the company today are Danny Brady and Jesus Fernandez. The new-look team is certainly stacked with incredible skaters, though, and we can expect to see the likes of Riley Hawk, Stevie Perez, Raven Tershy, Vincent Alvarez, Daniel Espinoza, Jon Sciano and Sebo Walker feature in this one. That's a heck of a lineup. Time to get excited.
