With the Street Skateboarding World Championships wrapped up in Rome, along with the controversial Dew Tour stop in Des Moines, World Skate has today settled on the 80 competitors who will compete at the Tokyo Olympics in skateboarding.
20 skateboarders will compete in each discipline: Men's Street, Women's Street, Men's Park, and Women's Park – with five Australians officially in the mix. The final qualifier list is fascinating, to say the least – the biggest names are mostly present, but plenty of left-field candidates have been silently chipping away at a qualifying spot, and we can surely expect some shocks and surprises when Tokyo finally rolls around.
For the Aussies, we've got Hayley Wilson (Women's Street) and Poppy Olsen (Women's Park) locked in, as expected, alongside Keegan Palmer (Men's Park) and Shane O'Neill (Men's Street). Despite being disqualified as a close Covid contact in Des Moines, Kieran Woolley (Men's Park) also did enough to sneak in – and with momentum on his side, there's a pretty solid chance he could snag a surprise medal in Tokyo.
As for dates, the Street events will be held on July 25 & 26, while the Park events take place on August 4 & 5. The full list of competitors for each discipline can be found below. Not long now!
