It's been a while since we had a genuine 3-way battle for SOTY, but this year's clash between Louie Lopez, Tiago Lemos and Jamie Foy was exactly that.
Tiago blew us away a number of times this year; firstly with a Real Street section, followed by his incredible part in The DC Promo and another for Independent Trucks to back up a solid Thrasher interview. Not to be outdone, Louie Lopez won Tampa Pro, then dropped parts for Spitfire and Volcom while keeping constant coverage in tour videos and magazine pages, including two major covers.
Despite their efforts, Thrasher has announced that Jamie Foy is the 2017 Skater of the Year. This caps an unbelievable year for Jamie, who was only officially put on Deathwish ten months ago. In those ten months, he's gone from flow to pro, dropped part after insane part, chipped in with bits and pieces of footage all over, had a historic Thrasher cover, and won over the people with his 'Big Boy Foy' build.
Any of these three would have been worthy winners, but it's hard to argue with Foy's victory. The video below is just one minute of the many Jamie released in 2017, and it sums up the level he's at. From flow to SOTY in one year – this dude is on a rampage. And at only 21, he could be up for multiple SOTY awards in the future. Exciting times.
Congrats, Jamie!
