Aussie Owen Wright has made history at the Fiji Pro, becoming just the seventh person to nail two perfect 10s in the same heat on his way to a maiden Fiji quarter-final berth.
"I'm absolutely blown away by how good it is out there," Wright said. "I never thought I'd ever get 20 points in my life, but there's so much opportunity out there. It feels great to accomplish it. It just feels great to get those waves. There's no better feeling."
Wright's incredible feat was the pinnacle of an epic day at Cloudbreak, which also saw four-time Fiji Pro champion Kelly Slater knocked out by tour rookie Italo Ferreira, continuing the 11-time world champ's disappointing season.
It was another impressive day for the rest of the Aussie contingent, with Joel Parkinson, Kai Otton, Taj Burrow and Julian Wilson all joining Wright in the final eight. Parkinson nailed the first perfect 10 of the event as he advanced straight through to the quarters, while Burrow showed his persistence with a solid round 5 win, having earlier gone down to fellow Aussie Julian Wilson.
Stay tuned for our final Fiji Pro recap, likely to be today.
